- Information about Saint Margaret
St. Margaret's was originally founded to meet the needs of the rapidly growing population of southeast Charlotte . The idea to form a mission in this area originated in the Greater Episcopal Fellowship of Charlotte, an organization comprised of local clergy and lay leaders.
On May 8, 1983, the mission's first service was held at Living Savior Lutheran Church . By August, the parishioners had petitioned the Bishop to name the church and on January 1984, the convention of the Diocese of North Carolina officially named it St. Margaret's into the union as a Mission . The first Vicar was the Reverend Anthony D. N. Ferguson, who arrived in October of 1984.
One of the charter members donated some land on Highway 51 and in March 1987, ground was broken to build the new church. One year later, our first service was held in this building. A short time later, the Diocese of North Carolina admitted St. Margaret's into full parish status and Tony was named our first rector.
Tony was called to St. Peter's Church in Jacksonville, Florida in late 1993. After a prayerful search, Father Filmore Strunk was called to St. Margaret's in 1994.
In 2003, the Vestry and Clergy of St. Margaret's realized that a new, bigger home was needed. At that time, the Church undertook a Capital Campaign to raise money to build a new home. In the Spring of 2005, St. Margaret's relocated to its current facility in Weddington, North Carolina.
In September 2007, Father Strunk left Saint Margaret’s Episcopal Church. After a year of faithful prayer and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Vestry of Saint Margaret’s called Father Todd R. Dill to be the third rector of the parish. Father Todd’s first Sunday at Saint Margaret’s was August 10th, 2008. We are excited about our new shared ministry together, and look forward to the new and exciting things God has planned for this Holy place.
Our Mission Statement:
